Two of the biggest diagnostic bodies in the world disagree, and that disagreement is the honest state of the field.
The American Psychiatric Association's DSM-5 and DSM-5-TR contain no diagnosis of pornography addiction. The World Health Organization's ICD-11 contains Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder (code 6C72), and pornography use can fall under it. Note how it is classified: as an impulse-control disorder, in the same family as kleptomania, not as an addictive disorder alongside alcohol or gambling. That placement was a deliberate choice.
Underneath both manuals, researchers who study this in detail are split on whether compulsive porn use is best modelled as an addiction. Some imaging work finds similarities to substance addiction; other work fails to replicate, or finds the patterns explained by high sexual desire. They disagree with each other in print, at length.
What both camps agree on is what actually marks a problem: impaired control, distress, and functional cost. Whether the word "addiction" is the right label matters less than whether those three things are true of you. If they are, the tools that help do not depend on winning the terminology argument.
